Golf Etiquette
Posted on Friday, 28th August 2009 in Golf EtiquetteIt is a shame that golf etiquette is not being followed as closely anymore. There was a time when every player on the golf course was respectful and people didn’t have a problem with them.
Now understandably, there are golf courses where golf etiquette is not needed as much, or isn’t as enforced simply because of the condition of the course. However, people are getting more and more lax in their golf etiquette. One place that I see it happening more and more is people picking up balls that are not theirs. When you see a ball that is clearly not yours, leave it where it is. Now there are times when I have picked up a ball when it was buried nicely in the woods or in the lake while looking for mine. But if there is a ball on the fairway or green that is not yours, leave it there. It is only right.
Another golf etiquette that gets me is when people drive their golf carts all over the course with no regards to signage. The signs are telling you something for a reason.
The last thing that gets me is people that bring beverages and other refreshments to a course and then throw the trash on the ground. Golf courses are one of the nicest places and are generally very well maintained. I love going to a well maintained course because of the beauty. Trash on the course just ruins it. Treat the course like you would hiking or camping; pack it in, pack it out.
Much of golf etiquette should be common sense, but just think about educating yourself and others on golf etiquette in order to make everyones golf experience more enjoyable.
