Golf Tips – 3 Tops Tips on How to Read a Putting Green
One of the most difficult aspects of the game of golf is learning to read a green correctly, but using a few simple tricks and techniques can help your green reading and improve your putting quickly and easily.
Finding The Highest Point
This is an old golfing trick, but a good one. Before taking you putt look around the green and find it’s highest point. Once you know the highest point imagine a bucket of water being poured on it. Try to picture exactly where the water will flow. Doing this will give you a could idea of the slope of the green.
You can also judge the slope by looking large bodies of water near by. In general the green will always fall towards the water.
Walk Around the Green and Feel the Ground Under Your Feet
A neat trick for getting a feel for the green is to close your eyes and walk slowing from where you ball lies to the hole.
Doing this will give you an excellent feel for the way the green slopes. For example the slope of a green might be all downhill until just before the hole. I you did not walk the line of your putt you may not know this and your putt will probably fall short.
Look at Your Putt From a Different Perspective
Sometimes walking around the green and looking at your putt from a different perspective can mean the difference between your ball going into the hole or not.
